How Slick Works
Slick is a search engine built from scratch. Here's what happens from the moment you type to the moment you see results.
1. Crawling the Web
Slick uses a custom-built web crawler to find and read pages across the internet.
- Follows links between pages to discover new content
- Respects robots.txt so sites can opt out
- Skips spammy, low-quality, or malicious sites
- Focuses on fresh, trustworthy content
Site owners can also submit URLs through our Search Console (Coming Soon) to get indexed faster.
2. Indexing Content
After a page is crawled, Slick pulls out what matters and stores it in a search index built for speed.
We index:
- Page titles and headers
- Main body text
- Metadata like canonical tags
- Structured data (schema.org, Open Graph)
- Internal and external links
We ignore:
- Ads, tracking scripts, and third-party widgets
- Cookie banners and pop-ups
The goal is a clean index with real content, not noise.
3. Processing Queries
When you search, Slick:
- Specially designed algorithms try to figure out what you're actually looking for
- It then searches the index for relevant pages
- Ranks results by relevance, quality, and freshness
The most useful results go at the top. That's the whole idea.
4. Displaying Results
Results show up in a simple, readable format:
- Title and URL of each result
- A short description of the page
- Site rating and statistics, if we have them
5. Privacy
We take privacy seriously:
- No personal data is collected or stored
- Queries cannot be traced back to you
With Slick, it is impossible to trace your searches back to you.
